Our story begins with Arif Sadath, an Afghan refugee who embarked on a journey to Australia, driven by a vision to preserve his heritage and provide an authentic experience for Australians seeking ethical handmade rugs.
Arif's journey was not an easy one. Escaping the ravages of war, he and his family fled Afghanistan in 1996, seeking safety in Pakistan. However, even there, hostility towards Afghan refugees grew, and in 1999, they were forced to flee once again after a harrowing incident involving a hand grenade.
Arriving in Australia, Arif and his family were granted a new lease on life through the Australian Humanitarian Program. With a deep appreciation for the beauty and craftsmanship of Afghan rugs, Arif saw an opportunity to share his heritage and support the talented artisans back home.
Thus, Sama Rugs was born in 2001 in Mornington, founded by Arif Sadath & sons. Our store specializes in offering a wide range of Afghan handmade rugs, including exquisite Persian, Moroccan, and Turkish rugs.
